Grotta di Bossea, Cuneo, Italy

Grotta di Bossea is located in the province of Cuneo, Piedmont Region in Italy. We went there during our camping in Cuneo with family and friends.

The CAVE is the sector Bossea end of a large karst system that develops in the watershed Maudagna-Corsaglia, between the basin and the river Corsaglia Snowy Meadow in the town of Frabosa Soprana province of Cuneo in 836 m. One of the most beautiful and important caves for Italian variety of concretions, grandeur of environments abundance of water and underground lakes.

Aspects very suggestive characterize the tourist part of the cavity, creating spectacular effects of great aesthetic appeal. Imposing size, the dizzy heights, the sheer cliffs, the vast carved ceilings with sharp edges, the cliffs, the gorges, the gigantic boulders precipitates from it are the issues prevalent.

These morphologies rugged and steep alternate with a rich calcareous concretions, forming lava hours imposing enormous stalagmites or heavy columns, now stalactites, draperies and lace of great finesse and preciousness. 

The underground stream now forms tumultuous rapids and thundering waterfalls, tranquil lakes and crystal-hour enclosed in picturesque rocky shores and concrezionali; copious seepage create multiple water featuresenriching the cave of dripping, splashing, streams, fountains and veils liquids that are collected at times in beautiful ponds and tanks. (text source: http://www.grottadibossea.com/index.asp)

Explored in 1850, lighted and equipped for visits, extending over 2 km, with a vertical drop of over 200 m. In the hall of the temple is exposed to the complete skeleton of a cave ursus that populated the caves of Cuneo up to 15,000 years ago. 

The tour to the top took around 1 1/2 hours and another 1/2 hour on the way down with a total length of 3 kilometers.

There is a bar at the foot of the mountain where tickets and souvenirs are sold. Ticket costs 11 Euro each for adults and 8 Euro for kids 8 to 10 years old.

There was a tour guide but only spoke Italian so the grandparents had to translate :)

We were glad that we did the tour because it gave us the opportunity to see the diversity of nature. 

Temperature is around 9*C so be sure to bring jackets.
